About SURS:

Student union Republic of Srpska (SURS – shortcut in native language is USRS)is the umbrella organization of student representative bodies in Republic ofSrpska. It concists of student unions of University of Banja Luka andUniversity of Istocno Sarajevo.

In 1999, student unions from University of Banja Luka and Universityof Istocno Sarajevo founded umbrella student organization  and registered it under the name of StudentUnion Republic of Srpska, as a student, a non-profit, non-governmentalorganization that is open to all students who study at universities in RSregardless of their nationality, political commitment, religion, skin color,sex, social status and other differences.

Since it was founded, SURSactively works to protect student rights and the promotion of student interestin various projects. Its major goal is to encourage active participation ofstudents and the public, political, social and university life through thedevelopment of civil society and democracy.

Among other things, SURS is thefirst student organization from the Republicof Srpska, which has establishedcontacts with similar organizations in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the whole of Europe.

SURS is a full member of ESIB(The National Unions of Students in Europe), today called  ESU (The European Students' Union), andregional initiative Students for Stability - South East Initiative Group (SEIG)and the Youth Council of the Republic of Srpska (OSRS) , and one of thefounders of Youth Observation Mission in National Assembly of the Republic ofSrpska.
